ATG 34 What We’re Eating. What’s Eating Us.

TODAY’S ECO WAKE-UP CALL: Eight hundred million people, most of whom live in the poor countries of the developing world, lack access to the food they need. The World Health Organization reported last year that undernourishment and malnutrition is the foremost cause of illness and death on the planet. In the United States, as many as 5,000 people die and 325,000 are hospitalized annually as a result of ingesting bacterial and viral pathogens, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. ATG 28 Organic Valley and their Social Experiment with CEO George Siemon

TODAY’S ECO WAKE-UP CALL: Controversy is raging over the U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s recent initial conclusion that food from cloned cattle, pigs and other livestock is as safe to eat as food products from conventionally grown animals. Proponents maintain that cloning can offer more consistent and higher quality meat and dairy products. Opponents say health risk studies are inadequate. They also question they ethics of the inefficient cloning process which too often produces stillborn or deformed offspring. (Source: The Christian Science Monitor and Washingtonpost.com)
